Interview with William Taylor, an executive at Caltex Petroleum Corporation, discussing his educational background, his military background, his employment with Caltex in 1946, his assignment as marketing assistant in the Philippines in 1947, the market expansion in the Philippines, the living conditions and social life in the Philippines, major contracts, Huk rebellion, the expansion of Philippine district offices, his assignment to Davao, competition with Shell and Standard Vacuum, the training of Filipino nationals, "case and can" market, construction of bulk terminals in the Philippines, the Batangas refinery, becoming the assistant district manager in Manila in 1955, Indonesian fields and their importance to the Philippines, and his impressions of C. Roesholm, Gene Menefee, and R. Monical. Taylor also talks about relations with the New York office, becoming district manager in Manila, his transfer to Thailand in 1962, joint venture refinery in Thailand in 1962, reforming Thai marketing organization, his appointment as general manager in the Philippines in 1967 his appointment as deputy director of the Southeast Asia Region, OPEC and its effects on Caltex, the relationship between Caltex and shareholders, his opinions of joint ventures, James Voss as chairman of the board of Caltex, and moving Caltex headquarters from New York to Dallas.
