The collection consists of a 929 page membership ledger of Klan members in Indianapolis, Acton, Wanamaker, Crawfordsville and other Indiana locations whose last names begin with the letter S-Z for the year 1924. It was one of a multiple volume set that was reportedly maintained by D.C. Stephenson's storefront company in Indianapolis. The other volumes apparently were destroyed over time. Included are names, addresses, occupations, charter member status, and naturalized citizen status.

The Ku Klux Klan was formally incorporated under the laws of the state of Georgia on Dec. 4, 1915. The Ku Klux Klan was a major factor in the lives of Indianapolis citizens in the 1920s. The Klan's Indianapolis office opened in 1921 and by the summer of 1922, claimed a membership of 5,000.
