Major John Wingate Weeks was born in Lancaster, New Hampshire in 1781 and entered the U.S. Army at or about the time of the War of 1812 in which he served as Lieutenant Captain and later Major in the 11th U.S. Infantry and was present with the Regiment in its campaign on the Niagara, Ontario Peninsula just prior to the battle of Lundy's Lane.
