This is a manuscript volume, presumably in the handwriting of George Robertson, of his autobiography. The handwritten draft with changes, was started in 1858 and concludes in 1870. The autobiography was completed by Robertson's son, Judge Alexander Robertson, and was published posthumously in 1876. Also included in the volume are accounts from George Robertson's law practice (1818-1832).

Robertson was a native of Mercer County. He attended Transylvania University for a year before reading law in the office of his brother-in-law, Samuel McKee, an U.S. Congressman. Robertson began the practice of law in Lancaster in 1809. He won election to Congress for three successive terms, beginning in 1817. In 1829 he became Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
