Robert Maynard Hutchins, the second son of Berea College President William J. Hutchins, was educated at Yale University, served as the Dean of its Law School from 1928 - 1929, and as President of the University of Chicago from 1930 - 1945. He subsequently directed Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc. (1947 - 1974), was Associate Director of the Ford Foundation (1951), and was President of the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions.
