Lucy Lipsey diploma, 1892 June 1 (Columbia, S.C.)

Diploma awarded to Lucy Lipsey in 1892, documenting her completion of studies to work as a school teacher; signed by the president and secretary; the U.S. Census of 1900 listed Lucy Lipsey and her siblings as residents of Union, S.C., where they lived in a household headed by Green Nicholas (b.1839) Includes image of Arnett Hall [ originally known as Ladies Industrial Hall] prior to removal of chimneys; construction began on this building in 1891; although unfinished, the structure was known to have been in use by 1896.
