Sylvester G. Caldwell letters [manuscript], 1857.

Caldwell's letters to his mother discuss job prospects for brothers, his employment with the firm of Holmes and Goodwin in Boston, his wife's family, and the experimental town of Ceredo, Virginia. He notes that Virginians in the town are "slow mouthed," poor farmers, just work to "get along" and spend the sabbath gunning or fishing. He suggests his brother come as good land is only $3.00 an acre.
