Correspondence with Carl Zigrosser, 1927-1967, n.d.

William Spratling was the agent in Mexico for the Weyhe Gallery. Spratling made purchases and arranged for shipping to the Weyhe Gallery. He was responsible for cultivating the Weyhe Gallery's reputation as a source for works by Mexican artists and by American artists working in Mexico.Among the artists mentioned in his letters are Diego Rivera, Carlos Mérida, Howard Norton Cook, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. The letters from 1930-1932 involve the publication of a portfolio of photographs of murals by Diego Rivera. The portfolio was published with backing from Mrs. J. B. Murphy (Ray Slater Murphy) and printing by Ganymed Graphis Anstalt GMBH. Spratling and Zigrosser were the agents who organized the complicated project. Spratling's letters to Zigrosser also detail his personal life and news of the American community in and around Taxco. There are requests for cash advances, information about purchases of native and colonial art, and later letters mention Spratling's independent commercial concerns.
