This item is a 4p. autograph letter signed by Andrew Phillips from Hospital No. 10, Louisville Kentucky, October 19, at 3PM. The letter contains information regarding the nursing of his sick or wounded son, the Batle of Perryville, John Hunt Morgan, and the Emancipation Proclamation. It reads in part: "...there are about 24 wounded boys here in this building but I have not learned anything more of the boys from our quarter...the Dr. has just passed by and says he thinks George is better...the family where I board consists of a widower & 3 daughters between 20 & 30 & a son & son-in-law & wife & some slaves. The son is a lawyer & he say that since the Emancipation Proclamation the people of Kentucky are all secesh except at Louisville & along the river at Covington...The cars now run to Lexington, Morgan was driven out of there Friday. Bragg I guess is safe & Old Buel gets any amount of hard names & bad wishes. At the Perryville fight he lay close by some say 2 & some 5 miles of where the boys were being cut up & would not help, these things I learn from the boys that were there & not one disputes it here..."
