Account book, 1758-1759.

This account book, for the period 1758 to 1759, is interleaved in William Hunter's _Virginia Almanac_ (1758). It contains military financial records and personal cash accounts. Included are entries recording the total payroll for the militia in 1758 and 1759, money lent and borrowed among his officers and acquaintances, and memoranda concerning requests from friends for the purchase of items in nearby Williamsburg, as well as commissary and ammunition orders and militia commission renewals. There are records of expenses incurred in Williamsburg, "an account of money left with [Preston's] sister sealed and no. as follows," a promissory note for payment to the military physician for tending to a wounded person outside the regiment, and a brief statement concerning a paternity suit in which one of Preston's soldiers was apparently involved.
