This letterbook contains the typewritten carbons of the correspondence of Mrs. Harriet A. Higbee ( - ), the principal of the school. The letters generally concern the administrative duties of the principal: letters of recommendation for students, informative letters to prospective students, and reports of the school's activities and progress to Mr. Perky. Numerous letters of a personal nature are also included, providing news of the Institute to former students and friends.

In 1898, Dr. Henry D. Perky (1844-1904?), the inventor of shredded wheat and president of the National Food Company in Niagara Falls, N.Y. (the predecessor of the National Biscuit Company) purchased the castle-like structure of the former Oread Collegiate Institute in Worcester, Mass.
