Correspondence, 1892-1893.

This collection consists of seventeen letters from 1892 to 1893 to Daniel Merriman, all of which refer to his brother William. There are letters of condolence in 1892 from fellow trustees and professors in Atlanta, Andover, Williamstown, and Ripon, some of which mention college business issues. Included also are letters from family members and friends containing biographical data on William. This information and several of the letters were used by Daniel Merriman to help compile _A Memorial of William Edward Merriman_ in 1893.

Rev. Dr. Daniel Merriman (1838-1912) was the pastor of Central Church in Worcester, Mass., from 1877 to 1900, a graduate and trustee of Williams College, trustee of Abbott Academy, Andover, Mass., and Atlanta University in Georgia, president of the Worcester Art Museum, writer, and Civil War soldier. His brother, Rev. Dr. William Edward Merriman (1825-1892) was also a Williams College graduate, teacher, minister in Batavia, Ill., Green Bay, Wis., and Somerville, Mass., and president of Ripon Col...
