Candage, R. G. F. (Rufus George Frederick), 1826-1912

Rufus Candage was born in Blue Hill, Maine in 1826, the son of Samuel and Phebe Candage. He went to sea at age eighteen, sailing along the coast of New England and then on voyages to the West Indies and to Europe. He served as master of the brig Equator and the ships Jamestown of New York and Electric Spark and National Eagle, both of Boston. He spent twenty-three years as a sailor, retiring in 1867 to Brookline, Mass. Rufus Candage died in 1912. From the description of Papers, 1808-...
