This volume of materials pertaining to the community of Blue Hill, Me., contains copies of town meetings from 1767 to 1801, Massachusetts laws pertaining to Blue Hill, copies of petitions to the Massachusetts General Court requesting a grant of land to the petitioners, a list of early settlers of Blue Hill, and vital statistics of early residents of Blue Hill, covering the period 1711 to 1892. There is also material relating to the Candage Family of Blue Hill and R.G.F. Candage, the compiler of this volume.

Candage, R. G. F. (Rufus George Frederick), 1826-1912

Rufus Candage was born in Blue Hill, Maine in 1826, the son of Samuel and Phebe Candage. He went to sea at age eighteen, sailing along the coast of New England and then on voyages to the West Indies and to Europe. He served as master of the brig Equator and the ships Jamestown of New York and Electric Spark and National Eagle, both of Boston. He spent twenty-three years as a sailor, retiring in 1867 to Brookline, Mass. Rufus Candage died in 1912. From the description of Papers, 1808-...
