Papers, 1817-1897; (bulk 1862-1870).

Family and business correspondence, accounts, and other papers, mainly for the years 1862-1870. Much of the correspondence is from Badham to his wife Louisa (Jones) Badham, including letters written while he was stationed near Petersburg, Va., and on Smith Island, at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, during the Civil War. These contain price quotations on blockade goods, descriptions of army life, and comments on peace advocates in the Confederacy. Other letters, to William Badham, Sr., are political in nature. Business records include dry goods accounts, miscellaneous legal accounts, a teacher's register kept by Mrs. Badham, and accounts of the sale of furniture belonging to her father, John M. Jones. Correspondents include Thomas Bragg, M.E. Manly, John W. Moore, Kenneth Rayner, and George Reade.
