Miscellaneous manuscripts, 1814.

Testimonial certificate presented to Henry M. Read in recognition of his class' performance on an exam, "reading Virgil and Selecta e profanis," at the University of Pennsylvania. The certificate is signed by Frederick Beasley (as "Fredericus Beasley"), James Wiltbank and Joseph P. Engles for the faculty and trustess. There is a notation that "This Testimony of Approbation is directed to be presented to each Individual of the class." It is unclear from the document whether Read was the instructor of the class or (less likely) was a member of it.
