ArchivalResource

Michael Lisowski papers, 1977-1984.

Collection consists of subject files assembled by Michael Lisowski, an active member of Milwaukee's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The files relate to various organizations with which Lisowksi was involved--such as the Gay Peoples Union, Gay Counseling Services, and Gay Community at UWM--but few provide substantial evidence of Lisowski's specific contributions or activities. Often, these files contain only ephemera such as brochures and fliers. Several files pertain to the Gay Peoples Union, documenting that organization's efforts to unify the Milwaukee gay and lesbian community around issues of police harassment, establishment of a community center, and coalition building. Lisowski was vice president of the organization in 1978.
