Records of the parent organization of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, later the Oregon Symphony. The collection consists primarily of minutes of the board of directors, 1914-1964; early financial records from the 1910s through the early 1960s; and materials relating to early Music Directors Mose Christensen, Carl Denton and Willem Van Hoogstraaten. Also included are articles of incorporation, by-laws, reports on reorganization from the 1960s, contracts from 1922-1937, and ephemera. Microfilm contains a list of contributors, 1963-1964.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra dates from 1896, but the group took its present form in a 1911 reorganization. Early conductors were Carl Denton and Willem van Hoogstraaten, the latter serving from 1925 to 1938, when the orchestra disbanded due to financial difficulties.
