Grace Wells Howitt evacuated from San Francisco following the 1906 earthquake and lived in Los Gatos, California until she died in 1949. Beatrice Fay Howitt (1891-1982) was a bacteriologist, botanist and avid conservationist who was recognized for her work in influenza, poliomyelitis, and encephalomyelitis.
