This collection of films, photographs, audio tapes, scrapbooks, editor copies of all Penn State pamphlets (1959-1970), and subject files were created and collected by the Department of Public Information to represent Pennsylvania State University in the public media. Scrapbooks include material from the 1860s.The collection includes 771 recordings, including 587 video and 180 audio recordings and 4 photographic slide sets related to Penn State.

The Pennsylvania Humanities Council designated the year 1985 as "The Year of the Pennsylvania Writer." The PHC funded projects in eight locations throughout the Commonwealth to gain appreciation, understanding, and recognition for past and present Pennsylvania writers. The State College/University Park location held a two-stage conference and related events by five Centre County regional organizations.
