The Columbia diary, 1913 May-1914 June.

Diary written by Dobie during his stay in New York City (January 1913-June 1914) while attending Columbia University where he received the Master of Arts degree. Many entries are commentaries on plays and operas that Dobie attended and include detailed descriptions of performances, sets, stories, etc. Other entries are descriptions and reflections on trips to New England, books, and social occasions. A few pages at the back of the diary have random thoughts and jottings indicating Dobie was beginning to consider the possibilities of his own southwestern heritage as a source for his literary work.
