John Scouler journal and related papers [manuscript], 1824-1872 (bulk 1824-1825)

Original journal of physician and naturalist John Scouler, of a voyage to the northwest coast of America on the Hudson's Bay Company's schooner William and Anne, 1824-1825, in the company of David Douglas. Includes botanical and zoological observations and notes on native peoples. Supplementing the journal is a typed transcript of Scouler's article "Observations on the indigenous tribes of the N.W. coast of America," with Indian vocabulary drawn up by Dr. Tolmie, published in the Journal of the Geographical Society of London, volume 11, 1841; a photocopy of the original article; and a biographical sketch of Scouler by William Keddie, 1872.
