Materials deal with Gore Vidal's archive which he had loaned to the University of Wisconsin but subsequently learned that the contents were not being well cared for. Andreas Brown mentions in a note that he advised Vidal to complain, investigate and remove his papers to, perhaps, Harvard. In his letter to Wisconsin, apparently upon A. Brown's advice, G. Vidal angrily complains about the handling of his papers and demands an accounting of them.

Gore Vidal was born Eugene Luther Gore Vidal in West Point, New York, on October 3, 1925, to Eugene Luther and Nina Vidal. Vidal shortened his name during his teen years to honor his maternal grandfather, with whom he lived for several years in the late 1930s.
