Letters, 1926, West Yarmouth, to Perry Walton, Boston.

Letters primarily concern his book, The fight of a book for the world; a companion volume to Leaves of grass, published in 1926. Letter of 1926 June 22, expresses condolences on the death of Walton's wife, Emily, mentions the recent death of Luther Burbank, Kennedy's long-time friend Thomas A. Watson, and the fact that the deluxe limited edition of his book is selling out; a second sheet gives a hand-drawn map and directions to his house in West Yarmouth, and mentions the local writer Joshua Freeman Crowell and his wife, "liberals (our style)." Another letter, accompanying a copy of the book, says that H.L. Mencken has offered "high praise" for it and will publish a review in the Mercury. A postcard relates that a Capt. Hendricks of Chatham is the prototype of one of Joseph Lincoln's characters. With a printed prospectus (5 p.) for the book, and a sample of Whitman's handwriting (an envelope addressed to Kennedy, 1889 Dec. 27).
