The First Annual Manitoba History Conference at the University of Manitoba : unpublished research papers presented on May 12, 1988 / sponsored by the Dept. of Archives and Special Collections of the University of Manitoba Libraries, and the Manitoba Historical Society. --

The first conference featured four sessions: Session I was on the dispossession of the Metis; on the town of Ste. Madelain, Manitoba; and on the Canadianization of Red River politics. -- Session II was on Manitoba social history, and included presentations on the formation of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in Manitoba; on Marshall Gauvin; and on the development of physiotherapy in Manitoba. -- Session III dealt with women's history, with papers on Dr. Ida Armstrong and Mary Barrett Speechly. -- Session IV, on treks and landscapes, addressed Manitoba's historic landscapes, and the 1874 North West Mounted Police Trek in Manitoba. -- The Luncheon speaker was Morris Mott of Brandon University.
