The Margaret Stobie Research Collection, Box 2, Folder 20 : articles on Graphic Publishers, et al. -- 1957-1973.

These documents about Graphic Publishers were part of Professor Stobie's preparation for her Twayne World Authors Book "Frederick Philip Grove", (1973). Erik Spicer's list of some 70 Graphic books also covers Ariston imprints with 2 titles: W. Kirkconnell, Tide of Life & Other Poems, and Ella Bell Wallis, Exquisite Gift, both 1930; 5 titles by the "kind of Vanity Press" Ru-Mi-Lou, ca. 1927-1929, (including one by a Ch. W Peterson, Fruits of the Earth, in 1928; neither author nor title are to be found in BISON or the LC Database); 4 titles by Overbrook Press, 1930 & 1931, and 18 projected, but unpublished titles found in Graphic's final catalogue. Henry C. Miller was in his early 30s and a printer -- he owned and operated the "Ottawa Monotype Company"--When he decided to found Graphic Publ. in 1924 (p.1). When a capital of $5000,000 was used for the firm's incorporation, he became General Manager. Directors were Lawrence J. Burpe, Christian, and Dr. Arthur Beauchesne. By 1931, this slate was much the same; Grove, who had joined in Dec. 1929, was then "apparently ... head reader or chief editor" (Spicer, p.8). -- Initially the location was the Lowe-Matin Building in downtown Ottawa; in 1930, it moved to 50 Russell Rd, Overbrook, to a property of Mrs. Cameron's. It folded, mainly due to the big Depression, in May, 1932.
