Papers, 1829-1871.

Papers of James Hunnewell of Charlestown, Mass. concern his business dealings as a merchant in the lumber trade. The collection includes deeds to land in Maine; letters to agents in Bangor, Orono, and Portland, Maine; assessments of taxes and receipts for taxes paid to the state of Maine; and an account book (1835-1854). Also some papers relative to Hunnewell's involvement as a director and as president of the failed Phoenix Bank of Charlestown. Records of the bank include some minutes from a Board of Directors meeting and numerous claims against the bank made to the bank's receivers.
