Sermon and letter of Edward Holyoke, the 9th President of Harvard University. Holyoke delivered the sermon (1737) at the ordination of James Diman and wrote George Whitefield a letter (1744) in response to Whitefield's criticism of one of Holyoke's sermons.

Edward Holyoke (1689-1769) was pastor of the Second Church of Marblehead, Massachusetts, from 1716 to 1737 and the ninth president of Harvard College, serving for thirty-two years from 1737 to 1769.
