John P. O'Callaghan papers, 1900-1958.

The John P. O'Callaghan Papers consist of certificates documenting O'Callaghan's military service in Great Britain and the United States, as well as his marriage, naturalization, and other life events; all fourteen issues of O'Callaghan's newspaper "The Eagle Bladder and Buzz-Saw," produced in Eagle, Alaska; a small amount of correspondence; and twenty photographs. Among the latter are a number of group photographs of military units in Great Britain and the United States, several photographs of O'Callaghan in uniform, one image of the sternwheeler Yukon, and one image of the Occidental Hotel in Eagle, Alaska, dated 21 June 1921.

John Patrick O'Callaghan was born in Tralee, Ireland, in 1881. His father, a British Army surgeon, was killed in Africa in the Boer War when John was two years old. His mother migrated to Brooklyn, New York. John ran away from home at the age of 15 and returned to Ireland. He became a British soldier and met his future wife, Ada Ayres.
