These records document the black empowerment controversy that occurred in the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The collection contains annual reports, minutes, membership lists, financial records, secretary's correspondence and general correspondence, publications and literature of the Black Affairs Council (BAC), the Black Unitarian Universalist Caucus (BUUC), Full Recognition and Funding of the Black Affairs Council (FULLBAC), Black and White Action (BAWA), and the Commission on Appraisal of the Unitarian Universalist Association. They were collected by David N. Bortin, member of the Unitarian Universalist Commission on Appraisal from 1979-1983.
