William White letter and engravings, 1824, n.d.

Note dated February 15, 1828, from William White to the artist Thomas Sully asking to postpone a meeting, surrounded by three engravings, none of which derives from Sully's portrait of White. The first, a bust portrait of White in his episcopal vestments trimmed in the shape of an oval, also appeared unattributed in Bird Wilson's Memoir of the Life of William White (1839); the second, another bust portrait of an elderly White in his episcopal vestments, has the caption "Engraved by T.B. Welch from a drawing by J.B. Longacre"; and the third, a full-length portrait of an elderly White in street clothes, trimmed in an oval, is from an 1830 engraving by Albert Newsam.
