Architect, painter, movie set designer and arts leader in Seattle, Washington. John Steward Detlie was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1908. After attending the University of Pennsylvania and earning degrees in architecture, Detlie moved to Hollywood in the 1930s to work in the movie industry.
