Papers of Courtenay Guild include 2 scrapbooks; an undated subscription book for the Commercial Bulletin, a family-owned financial newspaper; and an 1886 travel diary of his trip through Denmark, England, Hungary, Norway, and Sweden, with a month spent in Russia as well. Includes descriptions of Russian people, history, rulers, and cultural institutions. A letter (1913) from Curtis Guild denounces the Massachusetts Republicans for succumbing to pressure exerted by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Co. and shoe manufacturing trusts. Scrapbooks, 1865-1914 and 1891-1919, contain clippings, programs, and correspondence relative to family matters and to his work as Boston City Collector. Also material related to Guild's activities as a Harvard alumnus, rowing enthusiast, amateur actor, choral society member (Apollo Club and Handel and Haydn Society), temperance activist, and member of the Unitarian Club. Includes family photographs.
