Contains transcripts of Chancellor Howell's speeches. Howell wrote the majority of his own speeches. Consequently, many speeches are preserved as handwritten notes or brief outlines rather than formal, typed speeches. Speech topics include East Carolina's development academically as well as athletically, the role of alumni and community support, and the connection that a university must have with the outside world.
