The collection consists of notes, articles, and correspondence pertaining to Dr. Ralph Dreger's research. Subjects of the articles and notes concern psychological studies of racial groups, covering such topics as linguistics, physical development, social perception, and family, and are penned by authors such as Arthur R. Jensen, Clyde E. Noble, and Benjamin Pasamanick. Dreger's own works, co-authored with Kent S. Miller, are included, one entitled "Comparative Psychological Studies of Negroes and Whites in the United States" (Psychological Bulletin, September 1960), and a later review entitled "Comparative Psychological Studies of Negroes and Whites in the United States: 1959-1965" (Psychological Bulletin, September 1968).

Ralph Dreger was born in Chicago on April 13, 1913 and began his professional life as a Methodist minister, graduating with a seminary degree from Wheaton College in Illinois. Dreger then moved to Fresno, California where he began a long career of activism by speaking out against the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. After moving to Baton Rouge in 1964, Dreger continued to champion civil rights causes throughout the South and co-founded both the Louisiana and Baton Rouge chap...
