Research studies, 1910-1944.

Currently under the supervision of the Dept. of Mental Health, Worcester State Hospital and its predecessors have been responsible for providing residential care and treatment to mentally ill persons in central Massachusetts. In 1895 a laboratory was organized that made the hospital a center for research and teaching relating to the causes and treatment of mental illness; a formal administrative policy of vigorous prosecution of such research was instituted in 1927. Series consists of offprints and several typescripts of research by Worcester staff members, staff of other Massachusetts state hospitals, and other research, including: Earl F. Zinn. A psychoanalytic study of a schizophrenic (New Haven : Institute of Human Relations, Yale University, 1939), John Rickman. The development of the psycho-analytical theory of the psychoses, 1893-1926 (London : Baillè€re, Tindall & Cox, 1928), and a compilation of materials relating to the psychology of music.

Earl F. Zinn was a 1920's graduate of Clark University located in Massachusetts. While at Clark University Mr. Zinn studied with noted psychologist G. Stanley Hall. From 1921-1929 he served as Executive Secretary of a committee for the American Social Hygene Association. He was also a member of the National Research Council Committee.
