Papers of the Goddard family consist mostly of the papers and correspondence of Elizabeth Goddard Thomas of Portland, Maine. Early papers include deeds and papers of Falmouth (Portland), Maine, including a 1791 petition for land grants to the Massachusetts House of Representatives as compensation for British destruction of lands around Portland in 1775; and sermons (1780) discussing female virtues. Also, scholastic exercises of Elizabeth G. Thomas while she attended Miss Martin's School in Portland. Her correspondents include her twin sister, Mary Goddard; her cousin, Mary Orne Pickering; her husband, William Thomas; her father, Henry Goddard; her brothers; and her children. Miscellaneous printed matter, calling cards, household bills, and receipts from the Female Foreign Mission Association are also included.
