John Smith Kendall was an academic author and professor of Spanish at Tulane University. He also worked as a journalist with the New Orleans Picayune newspaper, and as a war correspondent to Cuba and Nicaragua.. He wrote primarily historical works about New Orleans, but also was a poet.
