Služebnik [microform], [13--].

Bombacine scroll, 16-17 cm. wide, 610 cm. long, composed of 5 pieces joined. A 6th piece, containing the beginning and end, is lacking. The extant text begins with ektenia (collect) before the first antiphon and ends with važglas (ecphonesis) of the celebrant before communion. Includes indications for celebration by a deacon. The text reflects the Orthodox tradition current on Mount Athos in the 14th cent. A descriptive annotation added in 1820 by the Greek Catholic priest M. Bobrovski errs in dating the manuscript to the 12th century. Dating to the mid or late 14th cent. is supported by reference to a Tsar, a term used by the Serbs between 1345-1371. Paleographic features also agree with this dating. The manuscript significantly includes a prayer to be read by the priest before the Gospel: "Lord, our God, incline our hearts to obey your expectations". This prayer is not found in standard texts. In addition, the rite of washing the hands that follows the transfer of gifts is particular to older manuscripts.

New collections were transferred to Avignon with the papal court, and were left there when the popes returned to Rome. The present library was founded by Nic...
