Butler discusses Napoleon's ambitious conquest of Europe, the health of de Villers, and his own ill health and the prospect of death. Of Bonaparte, he says: "Bonaparte regards the life of Man as little as you or myself do that of a file. This indifference probably arises more from familiarity with death than depravity of mind."
