Notebooks containing correspondence, reports, and membership rosters generated and/or compiled by Jane Kealhofer Simons (Mrs. Arthur St. Julian) on behalf of the Palmetto Garden Club, Columbia, S.C.; also notes, check lists, published articles, and visuals re wildflowers. Volume, 1957-1965, titled "Wildflowers by Jane Simons, 1964-65 (glass slide names)" includes clippings of published pictures and articles re native plants, notes on photographing wild flowers, indexes of published works, and identification list of slides of wild flowers photographed by Simons, ca. 1957-1960. Volume of correspondence, ca. 1961-1962, re conservation efforts, support for environmentalism, and political activism at the national and local level; the garden club's efforts to secure passage of "The Wilderness Bill S-174," and mention of the Club's "Conservation Committee" and the S.C. Club's interaction with members in New York, North Carolina, Mississippi, and elsewhere; documents work to ensure preservation of area now known as the Congaree National Park, with articles written by Harry Hampton in his newspaper column, Woods and Waters, urging protection of the old growth forest in the Congaree Swamp region and favoring passage of the Wilderness Bill (including column published in The State, 22 Apr. 1962). Volume, 1961-1971, includes correspondence and business of the Palmetto Garden Club, ca. 1964-1971; portions of volume tabbed as "Garden Club of America books" 1961-1966, and "Book list," ca. 1962-1965.
