This collection is predominately black & white photographs of libraries, librarians and library services performed around Washington State. There are photographs that range in size from 3 in. x 4 in. to 16 x 20 inches. The two large (16 x 20 in.) photos are color photos of the WSL Staff at the time. One is dated 1989 and the other is estimated to be in the 1990s. There are some negatives that go with the photos. There are 3 notebooks with B&W contact sheets and the negatives for the contact sheets of predominantly WSL personnel. Some photographs are in color. The collection includes photographs of many of Washington State's Carnegie library buildings. There are some portraits of Nancy B. Pryor, chief librarian of the Washington/Northwest Room at Washington State Library (WSL) for 15 years. There are photos of State dignitaries, Maryan E. Reynolds, Roderick G. Swartz, Jan Walsh (all former State Librarians). There are some photos of WSL staff and librarians including Laurie Fortier, Gene Bismuti and other unidentified librarians from across Washington State. There are biographies with portraits for librarians from across the State. There are photos of the different book mobiles, story telling and library architecture of libraries throughout the State. There is a album titled, "County Librarians of Washington State, design custom-made bookmobile." This album has about 15, 8 x 10 in. B&W photos of the construction of a custom bookmobile that was ordered by the County Librarians of Washington State. It also includes early histories of the many of the Washington State libraries. Libraries were sent surveys asking about their origins and those returned are included in the collection. In 1948, WSL given the opportunity to make a microfilm continuity of library service to be shown at the Western Washington Fair and other public events. WSL requested information from libraries and received Everett Public Library History in Cartoons and information from King County and Snohomish Libraries. It isn't clear whether the microfilm was completed. It also includes a scrap book titled: Governor's Conference on Library and Information Services, 1991 which has 18 pages of B&W and color photos taken at the conference in Spokane, WA. There is no text with the scrapbook just photos that are not labeled. However, some photos have been identified as WSL librarians including Jan Walsh (former State Librarian). The scrapbook was a gift from Rand Simmons (acting State Librarian, 2010- ). Box 11 has 6 wooden wall plaque boards with photos of WSL employees held behind acrylic panes. The names and positions are engraved into a brass plaque. Four plaques are "Employee of the Year" award: 1990, Lucille Schwender; 1991, Nancy Metcalfe; 1992, Debbie Crumb; 1994, Don Duncan. Two plaques are "Leadership Award": 1998, Debbie Rossow; 1999, Sue Cowan. The collection includes a 24 x 17 in. matted & framed list of WSL employees that made the agency transition to self-directed work teams, from Jun. to Dec. 1995 with a caption title of Washington State Library Staff, Thanks for a Great Transition.
