The collection consists of papers of Bell Irvin Wiley from 1928 - 1981. The papers include personal papers; general correspondence; writings, including books, articles, reviews and speeches; and research files primarily consisting of materials pertaining to the Civil War. The research materials include copies of letters, diaries, and other primary source material, most of it printed and some on microfilm. The collection also includes professional activity files pertaining to Wiley's involvement in historical associations and editorial boards; and teaching and administrative files relating to his service on the history faculty of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
