The collection consists of the records of Harrold Brothers (Americus, Ga.) and its predecessors from 1826-1964. The records include business correspondence, 1826-1964; papers of Frank P. Harrold, 1918-1961; financial records, 1855-1964; legal records, family papers, and other records not related to the Harrold family. Correspondence includes personal letters of the Harrold family and relatives concerning daily life and civic affairs, and business letters of the Harrold Brothers firm, their other businesses, and the firms with which they dealt. Financial and legal documents are personal or relate primarily to the transactions and activities of the firm and other businesses as well as to the family's church and civic involvement, and include invoices and receipts, stock certificates, tax returns, statements and quotations, orders, market reports, contracts, deeds, titles, mortgages, liens, fi fa's, insurance policies, wills and estate papers. The Americus, Georgia, firm of Harrold Brothers, cotton warehousemen, commission merchants, and bankers, was established in 1859 as Harrold, Johnson and Company, and was dissolved in 1953 upon the death of the last partner. Thomas Harrold (1814-1887) arrived in Macon, Georgia, from New York in 1834 and by 1835 operated a cotton commission business there.
