William M. Batts letters, 1861-1862.

The collection consists of a microfilm copy of eight letters, most of them fairly long, written by William M. Batts to members of his family from various points in Virginia during 1861-1862. The last letter is dated May 30, 1862, and was written from Staunton Hospital, Virginia, after Batts received a leg wound.

William M. Batts, Confederate soldier, died 9 August 1862, at Cedar Run, Virginia. He served as a private with Company A, 12th Georgia Infantry ("Muckalee Guards" from Sumter County, Georgia).
