Creitz family collection [manuscript], circa 1823-2007.

Photographs, documents, clippings, scrapbooks, ephemera, and genealogical materials relating to the Creitz family of Portland, Oregon, collected primarily by Norman Creitz. Includes materials relating to William F. Creitz (b. 1829), his son the violinist Louis Albert Creitz (b. 1866), and Louis's children Albert F. and Helen Creitz, also professional violinists. Also includes materials relating to Albert's wife Lenore Tamiesie Creitz, who was elected Queen of the Portland Rose Festival in 1929; and materials relating to other members of the Tamiesie, Huber, and Reiling families. Of special note is an extensive scrapbook of Lenore Creitz documenting her activities as Rose Festival Queen.

The Portland Rose Festival had it origins in the 1904 rose show and parade, sponsored by the Portland Rose Society. After the flurry of civic boosterism during the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition, Portland businessman E. W. Rose proposed in 1906 an annual festival to include a grand floral parade and related events. In the following year, 1907, the Portland Rose Festival Association was founded.
