Papers, 1945-1997.

Correspondence and photocopies of articles written by Hassett, a newspaper editor and former World War II combat veteran who was recalled to duty by the Air Force during the Korean War. The articles, which date August 1951 to February 1953, are about his experiences as a navigator flying B-29's based in Okinawa, and were published in the Dunn County (Wis.) News. They are accompanied by commentary and an index compiled by Hassett in 1992 as well as a printed journal of his experiences compiled in 1997. Hassett later served as executive secretary to Wis. governor Warren Knowles (1965-1970), and the collection also includes a scrapbook diary he kept during that period (Mar. 1965-March 1969) which contains schedules, correspondence, briefing reports, and internal memos. Also included are typed transcriptions of his World War II correspondence written while he served as a navigator on military transport planes in Burma, China, and India during 1945.
