Papers of Harold Gauer of Milwaukee, Wis., relating to his career as a campaign manager and speech writer during the 1940s for several local politicians, along with his partner Robert Bloch. The collection includes political analyses, speeches, financial plans, fundraising materials, radio talks, campaign strategies and suggestions, brochures, booklets, correspondence, and memoranda relating to the campaigns of Milwaukee politicians Carl Zeidler, Fred Clausen, Herbert J. Steffes, Thomas Amlie, John Bohn, Carter Wells, and Henry Reuss. The collection also includes photographs made by Gauer, dating mainly 1935-1950, of Milwaukee politicians and the Polish-Italian community in the Brady Street area of Milwaukee, and letters exchanged with friends Robert Bloch, Robert Vail, Sprague Vonier, and others on World War II events and experiences.
