Records, mainly 1980-1992, of a national nonprofit cooperative founded in 1978 to provide educational, legal, financial, and technical assistance to worker-owned businesses. Included are by-laws, board of directors and staff meeting minutes, financial statements, and other administrative records; correspondence and internal memoranda; and information (including one tape recording) on cooperatives with which ICA worked. The client files variously consist of agreements, contracts, correspondence, research files, business plans, loan papers, financial statements, and articles. Well documented are the Colonial Cooperative Press, International Poultry, Moose Creek Restoration, O&O Market, Our Market, Seymour Specialty Wire Company, and Workers Owned Sewing Company. Several files reflect the work of Frank Adams, ICA education coordinator.

The Seymour Specialty Wire Company was founded as the Seymour Manufacturing Company in 1878 by the Matthies family. The company produced brass products, at several mills along the Naugatuck River, for over one hundred years before closing in 1991. In 1984 workers at the company purchased the declining business from its owners, and it became the biggest employee owned industrial firm in the United States .
