Vernon Wallace Thomson papers, 1941-1974.

Papers of a former governor of Wisconsin and member of Congress consisting of speeches; press and publicity; and congressional correspondence, bill files, and case files. The speeches, drafts, recordings, and related background material concerns Thomson's years as Wisconsin attorney general (1951-1956) and governor (1957-1958). There is also material on his support of the presidential campaign of Robert Taft in 1952. The press and publicity consists of newsletters, films, and press and radio releases concerning both his years as governor and as a member of Congress (1961-1974). One file concerns his support of anti-gambling legislation in 1945. The congressional papers consist of constituent correspondence, case files, and files on legislation introduced or co-sponsored by Thomson particularly bills concerning tariffs for shoes, dairy and agricultural products, and lead and zinc and for benefits for Mexican border veterans. Also in the collection is one recorded speech to the Legislature by Governor Walter J. Kohler, Oct. 4, 1955.
