Official minutes of the board and its predecessor agencies, the Conservation Commission (1915-1918 and 1927-1967), and the Commissioners of Fisheries, the State Parks Board, and the State Board of Forestry. Also present are minutes of the Conservation Commission on microfilm produced by the agency which include confidential meetings of its Executive Board, 1934-1953, and minutes of its advisory boards. After 1975, the files include "green sheets," the agenda sheets and attached informational materials that were distributed to the board about topics on the agenda. Through 1973, the series includes typed annual indexes that precede the years to which they refer. In addition, a card index combines references to the Fisheries, Forestry, and State Park boards with the Conservation Commission. Two additional card indexes refer to the Natural Resources Board meetings, one for the period 1967-1968 when it and the Conservation Commission was functioning; the second is a Xeroxed copy of a subject index maintained in the office of the Dept. of Natural Resources secretary and covers 1968-1987. This card file was replaced by an electronic index that is available to researchers through the secretary's office. The processed portion of this series is summarized above, dates 1876-1994, and is described in the register. There are additional accessions dating 1995-2005 which are described below.

Session laws of 1874 (chapter 253) created this body stating, "commissioners [are] to receive all spawns of fish of all kinds donated by the general government to the state of Wisconsin." The commissioners' duties were more fully defined by chapter 307 of the Session Laws of 1876. The State Park Board was established by Chapter 495, Laws of Wisconsin, 1907. Its functions were to investigate and recommend to the governor and legislature the purchase of tracts of land for state parks, to purchase such lands when authorized, and to work with other agencies in managing the parks.
